Tourism Boost for North & Middle Andaman: AATO and Tourism Director Discuss

Tour operators and local leaders are pushing for a significant tourism boost in North and Middle Andaman. A delegation from the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), joined by the Pradhan of Ram Nagar Gram Panchayat, recently met with Director of Tourism Vinayak Chamadia to discuss strategies for enhancing the region's appeal to visitors and fostering sustainable growth.

One of the primary points vigorously addressed during the meeting was the urgent need to upgrade and modernize tourism facilities at Ram Nagar Beach in North Andaman. In a positive development for visitors, the Director of Tourism made a firm commitment that Ram Nagar Beach would be a prominent feature of the upcoming Island Tourism Festival celebrations. Furthermore, he pledged substantial support for the development of essential amenities, including much-needed washrooms and other visitor facilities at the beach, in close collaboration with the Gram Panchayat. This commitment aims to significantly improve the visitor experience.

Adventure tourism, a rapidly growing segment, is also set for expansion. The Director enthusiastically shared that four new, pristine scuba diving sites have been meticulously identified and clearly marked in Diglipur. Mithun Das, the insightful Ram Nagar Gram Panchayat Pradhan, proposed an excellent and practical idea: to encourage officials from the Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism to regularly attend Gram Sabha meetings. This proactive approach would considerably aid in better coordinating tourism development efforts and effectively disseminating crucial information and awareness about tourism plans among the local communities. The Director warmly embraced this suggestion, providing assurance that Tourism Department officials would actively participate in these important community meetings whenever feasible, fostering greater transparency and collaboration.

The AATO delegation also underscored the paramount importance of creating sustainable employment opportunities for local youth, particularly through the burgeoning adventure tourism sector. In response, the Director pledged unwavering support, confirming that the Tourism Department would actively participate in AATO's planned North and Middle Andaman Familiarisation (FAM) Tour and accompanying awareness programs.
