VP Radhakrishnan Kicks Off 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign in Andamans

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan officially launched the 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan' (Every Home a Flag Campaign) in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Sunday. He hoisted the National Flag at Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram, marking the occasion of August Kranti Diwas, which commemorates the 1942 Quit India Movement.

The Vice-President spoke at the State Function and Tiranga Concert on 'Vande Mataram' at the DBRAIT Auditorium. He noted that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands were the perfect place to start the campaign because of their deep connection to India's freedom struggle and the history of the Tricolour, according to Nicobar Times.

A Sacred Land of Sacrifice

Radhakrishnan highlighted the sacrifices made by freedom fighters who were imprisoned in the Cellular Jail. He called the islands a "sacred land of sacrifice." He paid tribute to Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and other patriots who suffered during the fight for independence. The Vice-President also brought up Mahatma Gandhi's "Do or Die" call from August 8, 1942, saying it galvanized millions of Indians and gave the freedom movement a decisive push.

The islands also hold a special place in the history of the National Flag. Radhakrishnan reminded everyone that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Tricolour in Port Blair on December 30, 1943, a truly significant moment in India's struggle for freedom.

Unity, Patriotism, and Development

The 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan', initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has grown into a nationwide movement, Radhakrishnan said. He urged citizens to proudly display the Tricolour and uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and collective responsibility that come with the National Flag. "Bharat is one and will always remain one," he stated.

The Vice-President pointed to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a prime example of 'Unity in Diversity' and 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' (One India, Great India). He acknowledged the islands' rich tribal heritage and their progress in connectivity, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Speaking about the Great Nicobar Island Development Project, Radhakrishnan mentioned it would boost India's maritime capabilities, connectivity, and economic opportunities. He stressed the importance of balancing this development with environmental conservation. He also underscored the need for national strength and preparedness, reminding everyone that India's tradition of peace should not be mistaken for weakness. He encouraged citizens to be ready to protect the country's interests and sovereignty, drawing inspiration from the Tricolour and the sacrifices of freedom fighters to build a stronger and more developed India.
