ADTOI Andaman Chapter Marks 30 Years, Puts Domestic Tourism And Island

The Andaman Chapter of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Founders' Day program held in Sri Vijaya Puram on August 7th. The event brought together students, tourism professionals, and experts to emphasize the importance of domestic tourism, island heritage, and responsible travel.

Hosted at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) Auditorium, the program revolved around the theme "Swadeshi Paryatan, Sashakt Bharat," which translates to "Indigenous Tourism, Empowered India." This theme underscored the primary objective of encouraging more Indians to explore their own country, thereby bolstering local tourism economies.

Celebrating Three Decades of Dedication

According to The Wave Andaman, the celebratory program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp. M. Vinod, the ADTOI Andaman Chapter chairman, delivered a welcoming address, providing insights into the organization's journey and achievements over the past three decades. He particularly highlighted the crucial role that domestic tourism plays in the overall growth and development of India's tourism sector.

The day featured a series of engaging sessions covering a wide range of topics, from general tourism trends to adventure activities. Pronob Sarkar, a renowned local historian and anthropologist, captivated the audience with a talk on the historical significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, delving into their rich past and cultural heritage. Saikat Biswas, general secretary of AATO, discussed the exciting potential for adventure tourism within the region.

Further enriching the discourse, Saeeda Banu, a professor at JNRM, shed light on the opportunities and national importance of domestic tourism. Siva Perumal, the Officer-in-Charge of ZSI in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, delivered a compelling keynote address. He passionately articulated the unique value of the islands and underscored the critical necessity for tourism practices that are both responsible and sustainable.

Fostering Future Tourism Leaders

A notable highlight of the event was an interactive question-and-answer session. This segment provided an invaluable platform for students and other attendees to engage directly with the speakers. Discussions spanned various aspects of tourism, including heritage preservation, adventure sports, and the unparalleled natural beauty of the islands. A significant number of students from JNRM College, alongside ADTOI Andaman Chapter members, actively participated, showcasing the younger generation's keen interest in the potential of tourism and its contribution to national development.

Mohammed Sajid, ADTOI Andaman Chapter treasurer, delivered the vote of thanks, while Nisha competently hosted the program. Chairman Vinod extended his gratitude to Perumal for providing the auditorium and to the principal and team at JNRM College for their unwavering support. The event concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem and a group photograph, symbolically reinforcing the chapter's enduring commitment to promoting domestic, responsible, and culturally aware tourism.
