How Many Days Are Enough for Andaman? 3, 5 and 7-Day Plans

For most first-time travellers, five to seven days is the useful range for an Andaman holiday. Five days can cover Sri Vijaya Puram and Swaraj Dweep without wasting the trip in transit. Six or seven days gives you room for Shaheed Dweep, a water activity and a calmer pace.

Three days is possible, but it is a short break rather than an island-hopping holiday. The mistake is counting only beaches and forgetting that flights, hotel check-ins, ferry reporting time and inter-island travel each consume part of a day.

This guide compares realistic trip lengths so you can choose the number of nights before buying flights or locking hotels.

Count nights, ferry sectors and full island days

When someone says "five-day Andaman trip", check whether they mean four nights or five nights. The difference matters. Arrival day may leave only an afternoon in Sri Vijaya Puram, and departure day may be unavailable for sightseeing.

Use three numbers when comparing plans:

  • Nights: where you will sleep and how often you must change hotels.
  • Ferry sectors: every inter-island movement needs reporting time, baggage handling and a transfer at each end.
  • Full island days: days that begin and end on the same island are the days that feel like a holiday.

The more travellers, children, seniors or diving equipment you have, the more valuable those full island days become.

What a three-day trip can honestly cover

With only two nights, keep the plan narrow. The least stressful option is to stay in Sri Vijaya Puram and choose a compact mix of history, a nearby beach and one boat excursion if operations allow.

Trying to squeeze Swaraj Dweep into this window means an early ferry, one beach afternoon and a return sector almost immediately. It can work when ferry timings and flights align, but it leaves no room for a cancellation and usually removes the sunset or activity you travelled for.

Choose three days only when the Andamans are an add-on to another journey or when your priority is specifically Sri Vijaya Puram. Do not promise yourself three islands.

A practical five-day first trip

Five days is the best compromise for many travellers. A realistic shape is:

Day 1: Arrive in Sri Vijaya Puram. Settle in, visit Cellular Jail if your flight timing permits, and sleep near the ferry route.

Day 2: Ferry to Swaraj Dweep. Check in and leave the afternoon unhurried. Radhanagar Beach works well as a sunset outing.

Day 3: One primary island experience. Choose scuba, Elephant Beach, a slow beach day or a resort day. Do not stack two weather-dependent activities into the same narrow window.

Day 4: A second beach, then return to Sri Vijaya Puram. Kalapathar Beach can fit earlier in the day when the ferry is later, but the confirmed sailing must lead the plan.

Day 5: Fly home. Keeping the final night in Sri Vijaya Puram protects the flight from an inter-island delay.

This version covers fewer islands than a crowded package, but gives you more usable time in the places you actually visit.

When six or seven days becomes worth it

Add Shaheed Dweep when you can give it at least one night and avoid treating it as a ferry stop. A six-day plan can include one night there, while seven days lets the route breathe:

  • Two nights connected to Sri Vijaya Puram, including the final buffer night.
  • Three nights on Swaraj Dweep for beaches, an activity and a flexible day.
  • One night on Shaheed Dweep for a quieter evening and an unhurried morning.

Seven days is especially useful for honeymooners who do not want daily check-outs, families with young children, seniors who need easier transfer days, and certified divers planning more than one dive.

If North and Middle Andaman, Baratang or Diglipur is a major goal, add more time rather than removing nights from Swaraj Dweep. Those routes involve longer road or boat movements and should not be treated as small detours.

Match the trip length to the traveller

Families: Aim for six or seven days. Use fewer hotel changes, keep one light day and avoid a same-day ferry-to-flight connection.

Couples and honeymooners: Five days works for a focused Sri Vijaya Puram and Swaraj Dweep trip. Choose six or seven when the resort stay itself matters.

Divers and adventure travellers: Keep at least two full days on the island where you plan to dive. Place the final dive well before the flight-home day and allow for weather changes.

Senior travellers: Prioritise direct transfers, ground-floor or lift-access rooms and two-night minimum stays. A slower six-day route is usually easier than a tightly packed five-day route.

Budget travellers: More days do not always mean a dramatically higher package price if you reduce island changes and premium activities. Use the Andaman cost index to compare the expensive components separately.

Book in the right order

Once you decide the trip length, confirm the pieces in this order:

  1. Flights into and out of Sri Vijaya Puram.
  2. The island sequence and final buffer night.
  3. Inter-island ferry seats.
  4. Hotels that match the confirmed island nights.
  5. Weather-dependent activities and local transfers.

Do not buy non-refundable island hotels before checking whether the ferry sequence works. Our Andaman ferry guide explains the routes, reporting time and the difference between private and government options.

So, how many days should you choose?

Choose five days for a focused first trip covering Sri Vijaya Puram and Swaraj Dweep. Choose six days when Shaheed Dweep matters and you are comfortable with more movement. Choose seven days for the best all-round pace, especially for families, couples and divers.

Three days can still be enjoyable, but only when you accept a small geographic scope. The right Andaman itinerary is not the one with the longest attraction list. It is the one where the ferries work, the final flight is protected and you have enough time to enjoy the island after arriving.

Share your dates, traveller count and preferred pace in our trip planner. We will build the island sequence first, fit the ferries around it and show the hotels, transfers and activities as separate cost lines.
