Getting there from Havelock jetty — the real fares

There is no public bus you can plan around. Cabs queue at the jetty and rates are broadly standardised across operators, though drivers quote higher in peak season if you arrive without a booked transfer.

• Private cab, jetty → Radhanagar one way: ₹800 – ₹1,000
• Cab with 2–3 hour wait and return: ₹1,500 – ₹1,800
• Scooter rental (self-drive, per day): ₹500 – ₹700 plus fuel
• Shared auto / tempo per head: ₹100 – ₹150, but only on the jetty-to-market leg
• A full-day Havelock cab covering Radhanagar + Kalapathar + Elephant Beach jetty: ₹2,500 – ₹3,000

Sunset timing, and where to actually stand

Sunset in the Andamans is early — the islands sit at the eastern edge of Indian Standard Time. Between November and February the sun is down by about 17:20; in May–June you get until roughly 17:50. The beach is cleared within 15 minutes of sunset, so arrive by 16:30 if you want the light and the walk.

• Walk left (south) from the entry gate for the emptiest stretch and the cleanest horizon
• The rock formation at the far northern end frames the sun in December–January
• Drones are not permitted without prior written permission

Swimming safety and the flag system

Radhanagar has real rip currents in the monsoon shoulder months and a genuine record of incidents. Lifeguards post red and yellow flags; swimming outside them is not policed gently.

• Green/yellow flags: swim between them, waist-to-chest depth is plenty
• Red flag days are common in June–September — the beach stays open, the water does not
• No water sports operate at Radhanagar; it is a swimming and walking beach by design

Eco-regulations you can be fined for ignoring

• Single-use plastic is banned across Havelock; bottles are checked at the gate
• No open fires, no camping, no alcohol on the beach
• Do not take shells, coral or sand off the island — it is checked at the airport
• Carry your waste back out; bins near the gate only
