Laxmanpur Beach, Neil Island — sunset timings and nearby restaurants

Laxmanpur Beach (Beach No. 1) is Neil Island's sunset point. It is a long, wide stretch of white sand backing onto dense forest, ending in a rocky triangular point where everyone gathers at dusk. It is quieter than Havelock's Radhanagar, but with the same early island sunset.

Sunset timings and the gathering crowd

Like everywhere in the Andamans, sunset is early. Arrive by 16:30 to find a spot on the sand or the triangular rock formation at the end of the beach. The crowd clears out fast once the sun dips.

  • December–January sunset is around 17:20; April–May is closer to 17:45
  • The beach lacks proper lighting, so keep a torch handy for the walk back to the parking area
  • Chairs and small tea stalls are set up along the sand edge in peak season

Swimming safety

Laxmanpur is a walking and sunset beach, not a swimming beach. The currents off the point are deceptively strong, the bottom is rocky dead coral, and there are no lifeguards on duty.

Nearby restaurants

  • Chand Restaurant: Famous for affordable seafood thalis, a short walk from the beach
  • Blue Sea: Reliable Indian and Chinese dishes, good for an early dinner post-sunset
  • Many Neil Island resorts are clustered along the Laxmanpur road, making dinner logistics easy
