Monsoon Food & Spice Festival is Back, Bringing Flavors and Fun to Andaman

Sri Vijaya Puram is alive with the tastes and sounds of the Monsoon Food & Spice Festival 2026, which kicked off this past Friday at the ITF Ground. This three-day event is all about showcasing regional dishes, vibrant cultural performances, and even some indoor games. It's a big effort to shine a light on India's amazing food scene, the Islands' unique heritage, and to encourage tourism during the monsoon season.

The festival is organized by the Tourism Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, working with various other departments. It's a key part of the yearly Monsoon Carnival, which is marked on the Islands' tourism calendar. The goal, according to The Wave Andaman, is to highlight local food, culture, creativity, sports, and community involvement. It’s also a great way to get both locals and tourists out and about to enjoy the Islands during the rainy season.

Festival Highlights

Priyanka Kumari, the Additional District Magistrate for South Andaman, officially opened the festival. After the inauguration, she toured the exhibition stalls, chatting with vendors and checking out all the delicious food and local specialties on display.

There are about 25 stalls and three kiosks set up, featuring government departments, state associations, local business owners, self-help groups, and food establishments. Visitors can explore a wide variety of traditional, regional, and modern cuisines from all over India. You can also find homemade goodies from local self-help groups.

One of the biggest draws has been the live cooking stations. Local eateries, well-known hotels, and restaurants are all whipping up a storm, offering a range of regional dishes, classic recipes, savory snacks, and sweet treats. It's a fantastic chance to sample India's diverse culinary traditions all in one spot.

Beyond the Plate

But it's not just about food! The Monsoon Carnival also features indoor sports. Chess and arm wrestling tournaments are happening at Stall No. 22, thanks to a collaboration with the Directorate of Education. This adds another layer of fun to the festival, going beyond just food and cultural displays.

The opening day saw a steady stream of visitors enjoying the food, live music, and cultural acts throughout the evening. M.J. Musical presented contemporary dance, while the Balakrishna Nritya Academy put on folk dance performances. LEAD the Band, along with Alpha Musical Group and Soul Musical Association, kept the atmosphere lively with their live music. The festival truly aims to promote traditional cooking knowledge, healthy eating, and the diverse culture of the Islands.
