Your 5-Day Andaman Packing List: Don't Forget These Essentials!
Coming to Andaman for 5 days? We locals know just what you'll need to pack for a super comfy and fun trip. Here's our handy list!

So, you're coming to visit our beautiful Andaman Islands for five days, eh? That’s fantastic! We're always thrilled to have new folks experience our little slice of paradise. But before you get here, there’s always that classic question: what exactly do I bring? Don't worry, we've got you covered. As locals, we've seen it all, from the over-packed adventurers struggling with giant suitcases to the under-prepared folks needing to buy everything once they land. Let’s make sure you’re in the sweet spot for a relaxing and fun 5-day trip.
First off, think light and breathable. It’s tropical here, which means warmth and humidity, often year-round. Our weather can be a bit unpredictable sometimes – sunny one minute, a quick shower the next. So, layering is always a good idea. And trust us, you’ll be spending a lot of time near or in the water, so quick-drying everything is a bonus.
Clothes That Actually Make Sense Here
Forget your heavy jeans and thick sweaters unless you're really sensitive to AC on flights. For a 5-day trip, you really don't need much. We usually recommend a mix of casual, comfortable clothes. Think t-shirts, shorts, light dresses, and skirts. aim for fabrics like cotton or linen that let your skin breathe. If you're planning on visiting temples or more conservative places, it's a good idea to have a couple of outfits that cover your shoulders and knees. This is also handy for evenings when the mosquitoes decide to make an appearance.
Swimwear is a no-brainer, right? Bring at least two or three swimsuits so you always have a dry one. You’ll be on Radhanagar Beach in Havelock, or maybe exploring the coves around Neil Island, so you’ll want to jump in the sea often. A light cover-up or sarong is also super useful for walking to and from the beach, or just throwing on over your swimsuit for a quick bite at a shack.
Don’t forget comfortable walking shoes! While flip-flops or sandals are great for the beach and casual strolls, if you’re planning on any light treks, like to Elephant Beach in Havelock, or exploring some of the lesser-known spots, a pair of sturdy sandals or even light sneakers will save your feet.
The Real Essentials: Beyond Just Clothes
Now, for the stuff that often gets forgotten but makes a huge difference. Sunscreen is your best friend here, and we mean a good, reef-safe one. Our sun is glorious but strong, and sunburn can really put a damper on your holiday. Reapply it often, especially after swimming. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are also non-negotiable for protecting yourself from the tropical rays.
Mosquito repellent is another must-have. While some hotels provide it, it’s always good to have your own. Trust us, when the sun goes down, these little guys come out to play. A small first-aid kit with basic medicines for headaches, upset stomachs (exploring new foods can sometimes do that!), and antiseptic wipes is also a smart move. You never know when a small scrape or cut might happen while you're out exploring.
A reusable water bottle is something we really encourage. It helps us keep our islands cleaner by reducing plastic waste, and it's essential to stay hydrated in our climate. Many places have water refilling stations, and it's good for your wallet too. A small backpack or daypack is also super handy for carrying your sunscreen, water bottle, camera, and anything else you might need for a day out exploring Port Blair or a beach trip.
And for all you tech-savvy folks, don’t forget your power bank! While connectivity has improved a lot, especially in places like Havelock and Neil, you don’t want to run out of battery just when you’re about to snap that perfect sunset photo. We've all been there!
FAQs
Q: Do I need to bring an umbrella or rain jacket? A: It depends on the season! If you're visiting during monsoon (roughly May to September), definitely bring a light rain jacket or a compact umbrella. For other times of the year, a sudden shower isn't impossible but less likely to last all day. We usually just find shelter and wait it out.
Q: Can I buy sunscreen and insect repellent there? A: Yes, you can find them in most local stores, especially in Port Blair and bigger markets on Havelock and Neil. However, sometimes the selection might be limited, and prices can be a bit higher. So, if you have a preferred brand, it’s best to bring it with you.
Q: Are there ATMs easily available for cash? A: Yes, ATMs are available in Port Blair, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep), and Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). However, it's always wise to carry some cash, especially if you're venturing to smaller shops or stalls, or if an ATM happens to be out of service. Digital payments are becoming more common, but cash is still king in many places.
Q: What about toiletries? Should I bring my own? A: Most accommodations provide basic toiletries, but if you have specific brands you prefer or have sensitive skin, it's always a good idea to bring your own. Travel-sized bottles are perfect for a 5-day trip to keep your luggage light.
Q: Should I bring any specific medications? A: We always recommend bringing any personal prescription medications you need, along with a copy of your prescription if possible. For general ailments, a small personal first-aid kit with pain relievers, antacids, and band-aids is very helpful, as getting specific over-the-counter medicines can sometimes be a challenge outside of Port Blair.
